Risk Management

PIC approach

Prior to delivery of breeding pigs or semen, PIC works with customers and their veterinarians to assess the disease risks of an introduction of new breeding stock into the customers' herds.  Together they review the suveillance activities that have been carried out (i.e., clinical examinations, slaughter checks, blood testing, etc.)  and their results.

Customer approach

PIC strongly recommends a customer to use isolations.quarantines for newly arrived breeding stock.  The purpose of an isolation/quarantine facility is to provide a period of time to:

  1.  Monitor and confirm the absence of any significant infectious disease inthe newly delivered animals.
  2. Monitor the health status of the source farm.
